DSPT#97: Hack the newsroom: How data-driven journalism is changing the news (Porto)

published by David Silva - 13 September, 2022

On july 28, just before the summer vacation, the Porto Data Science community gathered for the first in-person meetup in a long time at downtown Porto @ the Critical Techworks offices, for our Porto Meetup. We took this oportunity to learn from a portuguese Data journalist, Rui Barros, who is a data journalist at the daily portuguese journal, Publico.

Rui Barros has guided us through the mind of a Data Journalist and showcased some projects he developed in the last couple of years, with a focus on Covid related projects.

He also explained his main challenges as a Data Journalist, namely regarding data cleaning and validation of data.

You can check here this talk on our youtube channel.

After the coffee break, we all joined for a networking session, in which the attendees were clustered in small groups of 4/6 people and discussed several topics related to Data Science, career development and other topics.

Data Science Portugal would like to thank to everyone that attended our meetup and also our sponsor Critical Techworks for their support.
