COVID-19 pandemic in the age of data science, what have we learned?
Have we learned something from this pandemic? What did data science bring to the table during the pandemic?
In this talk, Dr. Peralta Santos will share his experiences as a scientist, medical doctor, and civil servant of the challenges during the pandemic to improve information systems to respond to social needs. But also, what were and are the weak links in the information chain of value, and the contribution of modern data science tools to epidemiology and infectious diseases surveillance. You should expect some thought-provoking memes and rants about data formats and code indentation styles.
André Peralta Santos is a PhD student at the University of Washington and a consultant at the Directorate General of Health in epidemiology and information systems. From September 2020 to September 2021, he was the Director of Information and Analysis, responsible for the COVID-19 epidemiological analysis.
His career and interests have been moving towards the epidemiology of COVID-19, the quantitative impact of health policies through causal methods.
André Peralta Santos is a Medical Doctor and Public Health Specialist, and holds a Master’s in Public Health, a clinical research certificate from Harvard Medical School and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Washington.
