OutSystems is seeking a smart and proactive Research Scientist who not only can apply the latest Machine Learning techniques to really complex problems but is also able to deeply understand and design his own solutions and mentor a team to achieve technological breakthroughs. A top-notch candidate has an excellent fundamental understanding of state-of-the-art Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques and has done research in the field, either in academia or the industry. This position reports to the Head of Artificial Intelligence.

As a Lead Research Scientist in our Artificial Intelligence Group, your main responsibility will be to mentor the AI Research team and collaborate with other research institutions, in order to push the state-of-the-art and make our next generation products smarter and easier to use. You will help define research directions and outputs and collaborate with Product to help get the latest research into the product. The sky’s the limit and you’ll help us get there.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor AI research team towards success by helping define the research direction, collaborations, and methodology;
  • Push the state-of-the-art forward in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, applied to Software Development tasks;
  • Work together with data scientists, engineers, and product people to bring new developments to our products;
  • Communicate research progress and milestones clearly and efficiently to internal and external audiences. Share your findings with the community, and be a thought leader in ML on Code;
  • Collaborate with other research institutions to openly advance research goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ year experience working or doing research on Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Speech and/or other complex Machine Learning fields;
  • Ph.D. degree in Machine Learning and related technical fields;
  • Experience mentoring or coordinating teams is highly valued;
  • Real-world experience in applying Deep Learning and other techniques to complex problems where you had to discover new solutions to non-trivial problems;
  • Hands-on experience with ML/Deep Learning platforms (e.g. Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, Spark ML), and data processing platforms (e.g. Spark, Pandas) to solve non-trivial problems;
  • Proficiency in high-level problem solving and programming languages. Able to create end-to-end working prototypes – from planning, data engineering and analysis and algorithm implementation. Experience in Python or R are valued;
  • Be creative, ambitious and curious. Be resourceful and innovative.
